Auto reload

This service is applicable to: iPASS co-branded credit cards, Debit cards, ATM cards.

No need to top up before making a purchase

If the balance in your card is insufficient or lower than a certain amount when you are making a purchase, a set amount of money will be automatically added to your iPASS card via card readers connected to internet till the balance is sufficient for the current transaction.
If you use the auto reload without activating your card, you will be charged a handling fee by some of the banks. Please contact the issuing bank of your card for details.

How do I activate auto reload for my card?

You don’t have to set up the auto reload before card activation. The auto reload will be enabled once you activate your card!
After you confirm the card activation with the issuing bank, the auto reload will be activated. The issuing bank will collect the set amount of auto reload from the credit limit in your account or bank account. No need to sign any document and no handling fee will be collected.
If you need to remove the auto reload set up, please contact the issuing bank.

  1. For iPASS credit cards issued before April 30, 2017, the auto reload amount is in multiples of 200 NTD.
  2. Some stores do not offer auto reload service for iPASS co-branded credit cards. Also, the auto reload might not be available for debit cards or ATM cards because the card readers in the stores are POS payment terminals.
  3. For some contracted merchants, the auto reload limit is 200 NTD (refer to “Auto reload amount and rules”). We will update the card reader set up continuously and have the limit of auto reload raised to 500 NTD (the auto reload limit for iPASS credit cards issued before April 30, 2017 will remain 200 NTD after the updates on card reader setup).

Precautions for the auto reload of co-branded credit cards

  1. For iPASS credit cards issued before April 30, 2017, the auto reload amount is in multiples of 200 NTD.
  2. Definition of given day
The “given day” refers to the time from 0:00 to 24:00 on the given day that the auto reload is activated. If auto reload is not successful, please make use of the iPASS card readers or automatic reload services provided by contracted merchants.
  3. The auto reload will be deactivated under the following circumstances:
    A. The card is not an “iPASS credit card”, or an “iPASS debit card” or an “iPASS ATM card”.
    B. The auto reload set up has been removed, or the iPASS card has been locked.
    C. The credit card/debit card/ATM card has expired.
    D. The credit card/debit card/ATM card has been cancelled by the cardholder.
    E. The card reader is only available for the auto reload of “iPASS credit cards” (whereas you have only an iPASS debit card or an iPASS ATM card).
  4. Precautions for small amount payments
If the balance on iPASS card is insufficient to cover transactions and the cardholder needs to make a small amount payment at a contracted merchant, the payment terminal of iPASS will automatically enable top up of the card.
    A. Your “iPASS credit card” will automatically get topped up with multiples of 200 NTD or 500 NTD until the remaining balance is sufficient to cover the current payment.
Example: Making a small amount payment of 500 NTD at a convenience store. The balance before the transaction is zero. 600 NTD will be added to the card automatically, leaving a balance of 100 NTD after payment deductions, or 500 NTD will be added to the card automatically, leaving zero balance after payment deductions.
    B. Your “iPASS debit card” or “iPASS ATM card” will automatically get topped up with multiples of 500 that are sufficient to pay for the current purchase.
Example: Making a small amount payment of 600 NTD. The balance before the transaction is zero; 1,000 NTD will be added to the card automatically, leaving a balance of 400 NTD after payment deductions.
  5. The maximum auto reload amount for small amount payments
The maximum amount per auto reload is NTD 1,000. However, if the balance of iPASS card is still insufficient to settle the current transaction after adding 1,000 NTD, the auto reload will not be activated. The cardholder has to make cash reload till the balance is sufficient for the current transaction.
  6. Tap your “iPASS credit card” to pay for ticket fares of Taiwan Railways:
If the balance of an iPASS credit card is insufficient to pay for the current fare of Taiwan Railways, the device will enable auto reload. The card will automatically get topped up with the least multiple of 200 NTD that is sufficient for payment (Example: the ticket fare is 500 NTD. The balance before payment is zero. 600 NTD will be added to the card automatically, leaving a balance of 100 NTD after payment deductions). However, the maximum amount of auto reload is limited to 1,000 NTD. If 1,000 NTD is still insufficient for payment, the card reader will not enable the auto reload. The cardholder needs to go to the ticket window or fare adjustment office in the station and top up using cash till the balance is sufficient to pay for the ticket fare and exit from the station gate.
  7. Use “iPASS credit card” to pay for ticket fare of THSR:
Example: The ticket price for a non-reserved seat from Taipei to Zuoying is 1,445 NTD. But the card balance before the payment is 200 NTD. 1,400 NTD will be added to the card automatically at the exit gate, leaving a balance of 155 NTD after payment deductions, or 1,500 NTD will be added to the card automatically, leaving a balance of 255 NTD after payment deductions.
※iPASS debit card and iPASS ATM card are not accepted by THSR for payment of tickets.
